Sling Media Slingbox PRO-HDSling Media Slingbox PRO-HD

A Tough Spot

Slingbox: bringing you TV wherever you want it, whenever you NEED it.

Oh boy, Marco, I think we’re in over our heads this time! I mean, we need to get the key out of that bullet-proof lock-box to unlock the door to escape before the room fills with poisonous gas, but we don’t know the password to type into the keypad to open the lock-box. And on top of that, the keypad itself is rigged with explosives that need to be disabled or else any button we touch will trigger a blast big enough to level this entire building and the building next door, which is a rehabilitation shelter for unloved puppies, by the way.

“Little Tommy, you’ve been my assistant too long to believe in crazy things like ‘in over our heads.’ Seriously, we have been doing these morally-ambiguous-but-generally-leaning-towards-good jobs together for five years now. In all that time, have we ever met an obstacle we couldn’t overcome?”

No.

“Right, now hand me my laptop.”

Oh, I see what you’re thinking. Hack in, disable the gas and the bomb, and then search their database for the password to the lock-box so that we can get the key!

“What? No. I was just gonna watch some TV. I got a Sling Media Slingbox PRO-HD, so I can watch my television in stunning HD over the internet! How cool is that?”

But, Marco, shouldn’t we be trying to…

“Be quiet, Little Tommy. Soap is on. Wait a minute… Soap was created by Susan Harris, who also created The Golden Girls. The central conceit of the Golden Girls was that the main characters were old. When food gets old, it sometimes turns green. We need to cut the green wire in order to disable the explosive!”

By golly, you’re right. But, Marco, how did you…

“Shh. I just changed the channel to HBO with the Slingbox’s easy-to-use on-screen remote control. Oh, that show Tremé is on. Wait a minute… This is the 4th episode from season 1. David Simon, the show’s creator, also had a hand in making The Wire which lasted 5 seasons. That’s far fewer than 23, which is how many seasons The Simpsons – the longest-running American prime-time, scripted television series – has been on for. The code to unlock the box is 41523.”

Wowy! That is simply astonishing, Marco! Tell me, how on Earth did you figure it out? Wait, never mind! Your secrets are your secrets! But quick, we need to get out of here with the documents before…

“Shhhhh, Little Tommy! This episode’s just getting exciting!”

But, Marco, the gas?

“Oh jeez, you’re right! Ugh! What do we do? On the one hand, there’s surviving, but on the other hand, I’m pretty invested in this episode and I want to find out what happens… Maybe you were right, Little Tommy. Maybe we are in over our heads.”

Wait, didn’t you say it was Sling Media Slingbox PRO-HD? That means you could hook it up to a DVR.

“That’s true! And I did! So I could set my DVR to record the rest of this episode to watch later, thus allowing us to safely escape from the poisonous gas right now! I guess I’m not the only one who can come up with brilliant, life-saving plans around here!”

Oh boy! I can’t wait to tell everyone back at HQ about this!

“No. You will tell no one.”
