CastleVille 10 Days of Prizes: Everything you need to know
If you're familiar with the countdowns that take place every few weeks in FarmVille, you'll be incredibly familiar with the new CastleVille feature "10 Days of Prizes." Similar to the FarmVille setup, this CastleVille event will see you collecting items with the help of friends once per day to receive fantastic prizes on the other side. You'll need to click on Eva, the elven trader, to start this feature, and from there, can earn one item per day over the next 10 days.
Luckily, you won't be limited to just the next 10 days to actually complete this event, as you'll have a full three weeks to earn all of the required collectibles to unlock all of the prizes. There are unicorns, flowers and more available for your Kingdom and with everything being free, how could you say 'no' to that?

The Contest of Countries: Opening Ceremony
Something is happening in London! Something amazing! Something magnificent! Something we're not going to refer to by name, because it has a tendency to be pretty litigious!
Yes, it is a time for pride! It is a time for countries to engage in an epic battle for dominance! it is a time for sport!
But, hey, maybe you're not into that - the sport part, we mean. Maybe you love the country-on-country action but don't care much for athletics. Well, just like during March Madness, we're offering an alternative - The Contest of Countries Competing Competitively!
Every weekday - starting next Monday, July 30th, and going until Thursday, August 9th - we'll be posting a new category - such as Best Sandwich, Greatest Author, Coolest Fighting Style, etc.
Here's some additional info, if you're interested:
- The countries will vary from category to category.
- Each category will be open for 72 hours.
- When a category closes, we'll tally the votes and award gold, silver, and bronze medals.
- Gold will be worth 3 points, silver worth 2 points, and bronze worth 1.
At the end of the whole thing, we'll take these points, add them all up for each country, and announce a winner on Monday, August 13th
That's all we'll give you for now, but get ready. Come Monday, you'll need your clicking fingers primed and your voting brain even primeder!

Utopia Mining is a game of creation and destruction. It's also a game that will take you a while to play, so be sure to save your progress every now and then. There's a lot of space to cover.
After the jump, we'll talk more. Grab your canaries and head on in.
As the music implies, Utopia Mining features a little robot who's come to town to get things done. You'll be helping him dig in his search for iron, coal, diamond, whatever. Make sure you choose correctly at the beginning!
After choosing your robot, you'll be dropped in the town of Utopia. The ground is below you. The shops are around you. People are sad and depressed because there's no income. You're going to change all that. They're counting on you.
But it's not just a walk around the town. The deeper you go, the hotter it gets, and you only have so much power per trip. Be extra careful, because if a rescue team has to fine you, it'll cost you some winnings and what's in your pack, and early on that can just ruin you. Too deep and you succumb to the heat and pressure.
I'd advise you to head on over to the right and fill up as you work your way back, just to get that out of the way. That'll give you a cash cushion, and then you can get all the deep coal near the recharging station in bursts, because you can get back faster. Plus there's a neat desert over there on the border.

PopCap's Solitaire Blitz goes mobile, plus a new Zombie dress-up game
If there's one big trend we're seeing in games these days, it's the ability to play them anywhere on any device. So it's no surprise to hear that that PopCap will be unleashing its 'blitzified' version of solitaire, Solitaire Blitz, on "the most popular smartphones and tablet devices" later this year. The game is currently on Facebook and has 1.8 million monthly players, according to AppData.
The official name of the mobile version is Mermaids! Solitaire Blitz, and despite the slightly different title, the game will still work hand-in-hand with the Facebook version, namely the game's weekly tournament leaderboards.
As far as new stuff, the mobile version of PopCap's social game will have exclusive achievements, which includes new card decks (and if you play this game, you know how awesome it feels unlock a new deck).
Also later this year, look for PopCap's mobile zombie dress-up game. In PvZ Presents: Talking Zombatar, you will adopt a pet zombie that can be dolled up with sunglasses, shirts, pants and entire outfits, like the zombie samurai (pictured to the right). Some of the clothing options will be free and others can be purchased in Crazy Dave's in-game store.
After you've readied your zombie for its public debut you can shoot photos, videos with your zombie and plaster them on Facebook, Twitter and other social media.
You'll also be able to talk to your virtual pal and have it repeat your words back to you in Zombie-ease, kind of like an undead version of the iPhone's Siri.
Both of these games are free-to-play, which means you can download them for free and then have the option to buy in-game items, e.g. more energy so you can play more Solitaire or extra special costumes for your undead pal.

While there's no question that Facebook is the number one platform for social / casual free-to-play games, the April partnership between Galaxy Life creator Digital Chocolate and independent gaming platform Spil Games has already started to bear fruit. With access to Spil Games' 180 million monthly active users, Galaxy Life has seen plenty of growth, seeing an average of 185,000 daily active players logging into the game.Thanks to Spil Games' localization support, it's not just Americans or English-speaking gamers that can enjoy Galaxy Life either, as the game has been localized into 11 different languages, with customer support being available in each language around the world (only a few Facebook games can say that). While Galaxy Life still pulls in the majority of its players from Facebook, around a third are those coming from Spil Games, which is definitely an impressive stat for developers that wish to gain success without being tied to Facebook.
"As Digital Chocolate's partner, we're committed to ensuring that our customized offering realizes a solid return on investment from their games. We think that the Galaxy Life results-even at beta-stage-speak for themselves," said Peter Driessen, Spil Games CEO, via a company release. Happy Music Monday! As promised, this week we're providing the companion to last week's Music Monday. This week we're takin' a look at boy songs, the songs that carry a man's name. And boy songs aren't just singing about awesome dudes either. Sometimes they explore the dark side of being a fella:

Who hasn't had the feeling of being trapped? Or being made to feel like an outcast monster? In this song, horror actor Dwight Fry is a stand-in for the human condition of feeling helpless and out of control. Sure, that's a feeling women have too, but Dwight had a male name, so he qualifies for today's list. Nothing personal, ladies.

Who says all love has to be romantic? This song is about the kind of innocent love two buddies can share. One for all, all for one, and never mind that the main character is actually a murderous rat from a horror movie. What's important it that this song carries the innocent feeling of best friends. And that Ben is a man's name.
Janis Joplin - Me And Bobby McGee
Kris Kristofferson wrote this song, and his Bobby was a Roberta. But Janis Joplin's cover makes it clear how her Bobby is a Robert, and that's the version most people remember. Kristofferson and Joplin had a thing once upon a time, and even though he didn't write this song for her specifically, he certainly didn't mind that her version went to number one. Most people doing it now aren't covering Roger Miller, the man who recorded it first. They're covering Janis, the woman who recorded it best. That pretty much makes it her song now, and that makes Bobby a boy.
Now, it's probably impossible to actually shock David Bowie. But back in 1971, when he was still finding his way, it must have been a huge shock for young David to learn that Warhol, one of his idols, didn't actually enjoy this song. It just goes to show that Warhol wasn't always a visionary, because this specific song has won over legion after legion of Bowie fans. And it goes without saying it's about a very important man. PS to purists: the original is here if you don't care for the one I linked.
Paul Simon - Me And Julio Down By The Schoolyard
I chose this version not because it's the original (which you can find here), but because of how Paul Simon just steps on that little kid's solo the second he's ready to start singing. Somewhere, Art Garfunkel is shaking his head in solidarity. Anyway, this mysterious song doesn't really HAVE an answer, as even Paul himself doesn't know what exactly Mama saw. But it's still super catchy, and it does feature a man's name, so it makes the cut! Unlike that poor little girl. Maybe she went on to sing backup with Los Lobos.

Jet Set Radio skates onto iOS and Android later this year
While news of a Jet Set Radio HD remake for consoles was revealed earlier this year, fans of the original Jet Grind Radio on Sega Dreamcast and Jet Set Radio Future on Xbox now have even more to be excited about: Sega has announced that Jet Set Radio is also coming to iOS and Android!
Fans of the graffiti game(s) won't have to worry about the jump to mobile either, as the game is set to include the same gameplay, soundtrack and cel-shaded art style as the current console versions, along with Retina display support for iOS devices and OpenFeint integration. We'll even be able to share our achievements with friends via the game's Facebook connectivity, or use our own pictures as in-game graffiti.

While we don't know a specific release date for Jet Set Radio on iOS and Android, the simple news that the game exists on smartphones is more than enough to tide me over for a little while. How about you?

I realize those websites on my laptop might be against company policy, but they were for, uh, professional development.
Look, we don't need this hearing to take any longer than it needs to. I understand when the company issued me this Samsung 15.6" Quad-Core Laptop it was explicitly stated that I could not browse any personal and/or "questionable" sites on it. But I wasn't looking at anything untoward, I was completing company-sanctioned professional development.See, I was simply studying, uh, anatomy. For…drawing. Art. Art's a thing, right? People need that. And the AMD A6-3430MX quad-core processor could really render those, uh, models, thoroughly. And I had to study how to draw the human form as part of learning art. To enhance my professional skills. To advance my career. The company allows that, right? You can't fault me!Okay, I understand you might have questions as to why a customer service rep might need to be able to draw anatomically correct human bodies, but the point is it's professional development.
